The atmosphere around the earth keeps the global temperature at approximately 15°C. But human-related activities creating greenhouse gases, such as CO2, are altering the global climate. Canada is the second largest producer of CO2, caused by reliance on burning fossil fuels to heat homes, for transportation and fossil fuel production.

Industry and agricultural sources also contribute to increased CO2 production through smelting and nitrogen fertilizers.
