This includes snow, rain, hail or even fog that has become highly acidic from sulphuric and nitric acid. Sulphur dioxide is primarily produced by industrial processes such as coal-fired electrical generating facilities. Canadian gasoline also contains extremely high levels of sulphur. In the Atlantic region, acidification of spawning waters has caused a loss to the salmon fishery of 9,000 to 14,000 fish per year.
